NIGERIA'S POKING FUN AT SPAIN TOMATO FESTIVAL GRABS INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION

It’s no longer news that tomatoes are ridiculously expensive in Nigeria right now due to a pest attack in the North from Tuta Absoluta. Nigerians however do not lose an opportunity to poke fun and Nigerian social media accounts have been agog with pictures of La Tomatina in Bunol, Spain where an annual tomato fight festival takes place in August with over 20 000 participants. These jokes caught the attention of Washington Post which featured some of the funny tweets with the caption 'Nigeria’s ‘tomato emergency’ prompts online outrage — at Spain'

Right now, in a country where i had to buy about 4 seeds of tomatoes for N300, that is a huge waste when i can use it to cook huge pots of our much beloved stew. The Washington Post and residents of Bunol should not entertain any fear at Nigerians reaction at the waste of tomatoes. We are not angry. Its just our way of easing the tension of our tomatoless situation
