MAJOR FOOD HACKATHON SET TO HOLD IN PORT-HARCOURT- REGISTER NOW

Port-Harcourt is about to have a major food hackathon event known as the StartleTech Hackathon. The event tagged ‘Lets Hack Food’, is a competition that invites teams of contestants to develop and design a solution to food issues in Rivers State. 

It is a 3 day hackathon billed to hold from the 16^th to 18^th June 2017. 18 persons will form a team of 3 and work on any solution that they think will best provide solution to the Food sector in Rivers State. Attendees will recieve details of the app t o be built on the day of the event.

The Hackathon is organised by StartleTech, an info tech company based in Port-Harcourt in conjunction with KoWorkNg. Prizes for winners include N300,000 cash prize and also co-working space at KoworkNg Hub.

Call for Applications for the Health Meets Tech App Challenge

EpiAfric and Digital Health Nigeria proudly announce a call for applications for the Health Meets Tech Application Challenge, holding between June 30th and July 2nd, May 2017.

The challenge will bring existing health tech start-ups and new teams of 3–6 individuals to create, develop and pitch viable technological solutions to improve health outcomes for the average Nigerian. Solutions judged to be viable and promising will be supported with prizes and mentoring to improve clinical viability, exposure and market adoption. The Co-Creation Hub will deliver the Health Meets Tech App Challenge in Yaba, Lagos.

Who may apply?
 Interested persons may register to participate, with or without an idea, as your expertise will be used within a team to develop an application. We are looking for:

• Health care workers
• Health care users
• Software developers
• Ideators
• UI/UX designers
• Entrepreneurs
• Business people
• Start-ups
• You

Application Rules

• All participants must register in advance of the event. Registration closes 2 weeks prior to event and day-of registrations will not be allowed.
• All project teams must be comprised of 3–6 members. If team comprises of less than 3, additional members may be gotten via the event’s fb group.
• Existing teams/ businesses are allowed in this challenge. However, the work to be done during the challenge must be new in either the type of tech deployed or its application.
• No advance contact may be made with judges regarding projects, and knowledge of such communication may lead to a team’s removal from the competition.
• Solutions should be working demos and must be presented at the conclusion of the event.

Apple invests $1bn in Uber's largest Chinese competitor

Friday the 13th is traditionally seen as a day with a bad omen. Hopefully, that may not be the case for Uber, as they received news that might just be any businesses' nightmare yesterday. Their biggest rival in China, Didi Chuxing (formerly Didi Kuaidi) got a massive investment from Apple of $1 billion Dollars. This funding and strategic partnership with Apple could be a game changer for Didi Chuxing, the largest taxi-booking and ride-sharing service app in China Uber as its biggest rival.

Uber's CEO, Travisk Kalanick, apparently seems to be taking this latest strategic move in 'ride-sharing wars' with a sense of humor and joked about this in his tweet yesterday.

Car manufacturers and people in technology are increasingly forging new partnerships and this will be increasingly beneficial for Apple which is looking to strengthen its hold in the Chinese market after spotlight from regulators, as well as Didi Chuxing.
