US Visa Applicants now will be required to submit their social media
handles of the past five years and biographical information for the last 15
years. According to Reuters, the US government released a new questionnaire as a means of tightening
vetting of visa applicants.
Consular officials are now empowered to request all prior passport
numbers, five years' worth of social media handles, email addresses and phone
numbers and 15 years of biographical information including addresses,
employment and travel history. (bit.ly/2qBSrpv)
It is yet to be seen how this will directly affect Nigerians seeking to
visit the US but according to the US State Department it will apply to visa
applicants "who have been determined to warrant additional scrutiny in
connection with terrorism or other national security-related visa ineligibilities."
The tighter vetting requirement received approval on May 23 by the Office of Management and Budget
